Florida Governor and Cabinet approve
Tortugas Ecological Reserve unanimously The Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida voted unanimously April 24th to approve the Tortugas Ecological Reserve in state territorial waters

Broward beach renourishment burial of 28 acres of coral hardbottom is on hold pending completion of an Environmental Impact Statement. Southeast Florida's Broward County has been seeking approval of this beach project since November 1999.

Delayed U.S. Caribbean fish trap census allows indiscriminate reef fish killing to continue. It's been over a year since the December 1999 vote by the U.S. Caribbean Fishery Management Council to conduct a census of wire mesh fish traps used off Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands before deciding to take any action to ban or limit the traps.
